The opening meeting for ABCD-WIT was on September 28 from 3- 5 pm.   A brief tour of the Ethelbert Cooper Gallery of  African & African American Art will start promptly at 3 pm. The Gallery is at 102 Mt. Auburn St.

The Cooper Gallery”s  current exhibition presents the evocative work of internationally acclaimed photography and video installation artist Carrie Mae Weems, recipient of the 2013 MacArthur “Genius” grant and the 2015 W. E. B. Du Bois Medal. The exhibition highlights her storytelling tableaux that question our social constructs of power, race, and space and pose a more multi-dimensional concept of humanity. Organized in three parts, Beauty, Legacies, andLandscapes, the installation illuminates our social and aesthetic vistas—both real and imagined—and centers on Weems' stunning expressions of black beauty.

The main meeting will be hosted next door at the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research, 104 Mt. Auburn St. at 3:30pm. Please come to floor 3R and you will be directed to the meeting.  Abby Wolf, Executive Director of the Hutchins Center will give a brief overview of our work and answer questions.  Refreshments and networking will follow.
