Description
The terms allyship, diversity, equity, and inclusion (‘DEI’) have come under scrutiny due to how we approach and practice them. While we may strive to support people who have been socially marginalized, or dismantle structures that create advantages and disadvantages for certain groups of people, the outcomes do not always align with our intentions. Now more than ever, it is important for us to reflect on our roles and positionalities if we are to create sustainable change. During this month’s meetup we will explore:
- the meaning and frameworks of allyship and DEI
- the social implications of privilege and non-privilege
- tips on how to approach and embody allyship in the DEI field
Speakers:
Candice Belanoff, ScD, MPH, Maternal and Child Health Epidemiologist, Boston University School of Public Health
Jess Lee, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Director, City Year
Felicia Jadczak, Co-CEO and Head of DEI, She+ Geeks Out
