Samantha Earp’s talk Instagrams from the Edge: Observations on women and IT from the edge spaces

Samantha has been involved in IT or IT-adjacent work for most of the 30 years since she was a student software developer and computer literacy instructor as an undergraduate. She’ll share some of the lessons she’s learned along the way, focusing on simple ways we can all help create positive environments for women who work in IT and for women who hope to pursue IT careers.

Bio
I’ve worked in higher ed for over 25 years in various roles, from student worker in a computer center to graduate research assistant, academic technology consultant, language center director, manager of instructional media services and head of academic services for central IT. I’ve taught at the community college, undergraduate and masters’ level in the U.S. and in France and also worked as a software developer and translator. I have a B.A. in French from Berea College and an M.A. in French Linguistics from Indiana University, where I did further Ph.D. coursework in Instructional Systems Technology and French/Linguistics. I am a fellow of the Frye Leadership Institute (2008). Prior to coming to Harvard in 2012, I spent 12 years at Duke University in several different roles in instructional technology and academic IT, most recently as Director of Academic Services in the Office of Information Technology.
